Staying Close To The People You Love ... But Sometimes Can’t Stand
Most of us have had the disturbing experience of discovering that the people who we have loved most have somehow become the people who are hardest to love. The confounding news is that this baffling change has to do with the way we humans unintentionally recreate troubling childhood themes in our most cherished adult relationships. The encouraging news is that group therapy provides an excellent opportunity to learn to do something different.

Although people see a licensed counselor or go to group therapy with a variety of symptoms and complaints, they all share the wish to improve their relationships with other people, e.g., partners, friends, children, parents, co-workers. Group therapy provides unique opportunities to understand how patterns of relating learned in our childhood families are repeated unintentionally with significant others in our adult lives. In addition to being a licensed counseling psychologist who does individual therapy, marriage counseling, and family therapy, I am also certified as a group therapist. I specialize in helping people use the ideal space created by group therapy, to practice new, more effective behaviors together with other people who are committed to doing the same thing.
If you are interested in participating in group therapy, please contact Dr. Rebecca Stadtner at (707) 227-6511.
